Our Philosophy

At Niche for design, our goal is to create spaces that are reflective of you! We aim to simplify the renovation process and we believe that creating a collaborative environment with clients and our renovation team is key. It is a bit like juggling sometimes, but it is great to be able to reduce a clients stress and make the decision making process easier.

Erika Mackay, NCIDQ BAA ID(Principal)

I hold a BAA in Interior Design Degree from Algonquin College in Ottawa and enjoy teaching aspiring professionals as an instructor at Conestoga College’s School of Media and Design. My New Brunswick roots tend to show themselves as my east coast accent slips into conversation from time to time. I am proud to now call Hamilton my home as I’m grateful to be part of the energy and optimism we are currently experiencing in this city. Translating a client’s personality or brand into a vision and a functional space is my area of expertise. The most exciting experience for me is seeing people benefit from improvements in their space. I also spend as much time as I can reading, doing yoga, and dreaming of my next travel adventure. On a typical weekend you will find me working on my mid century fixer upper home or out exploring!

Jessica Luu (Lead Designer- Interiors & Space Planning)

I am a graduate of the Interior Design Diploma Program at Sheridan College. Being born and raised Hamiltonian, I am thrilled to see the transformation and prosperity of the city revitalizing once again. My three children constantly keep my hands full. If I’m not being a book worm, trying new foods or baking up a storm, I’m constantly design ­ daydreaming about how to create or improve interior spaces and nit­picking at floor plans, trying to make better spaces.

When I am not designing interior spaces, I funnel my creativity into creating wedding invitations. In my spare time, I can be found behind the lens of my DSLR camera shooting photos, landing me the opportunity to shoot at Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week! Since I was young, I always had a certain creative flair. I was drawn to Interior design because it requires both creativity and problem solving skills.

Kyle Blackadar (Lead Designer- Interiors & Space Planning)

The arts is something I always enjoyed and excelled in which I naturally gravitated towards growing up. After high school I enrolled at Sheridan College and completed the 3 year Interior Design program there.

Upon graduating I spent the next couple years in the commercial office furniture world. This lead me into the direction of Commercial office Interior Design. It is great to be able to provide functional, productive work spaces while keeping a bright and fresh aesthetic that will stand the test of time.

When out of the office, you will likely find my wife and I with friends checking out the latest Hamilton and surrounding area craft breweries for a cold one…or two. As a Hamilton resident I love walking about checking out the latest shops, new restaurants and the Hamilton’s farmers market to support local.

Lisa Zaborsky (Customer Relations & Project Coordinator)

I am proud to bring my 10 plus years of experience in administration and customer service to the company. My main goal is to continue building lasting relationships with both our clients and suppliers. A lifelong Hamiltonian, I have have a great respect for the history and architecture this city has to offer, and look forward to being a part its revitalization.

When I’m not working I am spending time with my husband and young son or following my other passion; music. A former professional musician in a past life, you may catch me still doing the occasional gig or at least listen outside my living room window as I play piano and sing…even if it is only the theme song from the latest Disney Film!

Maria Checchia (Purchasing & Office Coordinator)

Always having a passion for organization and coordinating, my career has always lead me to make a positive difference in any way I can. I have a strong ability to streamline process, maximize efficiency and foster professional relationships with clients and suppliers. With more than 7 years in client/customer service, administration, and management, I had the opportunity to wear many hats, and as a result, I have acquired a very diverse set of skills.

I joined the interior design world a few short years ago and quickly realized that this creativity field is where I am supposed to be. Since my career has taken me in many adventurous directions It would only makes sense that my personal life follows suit. My favourite place to be is snuggled up on the couch with my dog.
